Best time to go

You can visit the Andes throughout the year although the best views along the volcanoes' route are from June to August. Due to the altitude and location the temperature roughly stays the same,  ranging from more than 20 degrees during the day till 8 degrees in the evening.  

 

Certain public holidays are celebrated more lavishly in certain cities:

  • The Easter procession on Good Friday in Quito is known throughout South America

  • Carnival is celebrated in Guamote and Guaranda

  • Fiestas de Quito have their climax on the 4th and 5th of December

  • Combine the "guaguas the pan" and "colada morada" of All Souls Day with the founding celebrations of Cuenca on November 3rd

  • Try Fanesca in the weeks before Easter, a soup in which all the cereals of the Andes are combined
