Just two hours north of Quito you can find Otavalo, a city that is known for its large market. In this lively market you can buy traditional clothing and souvenirs on any day of the week. Only on Saturday morning there is an animal market. 

The Otavaleños themselves are beautiful to look at because of their local traditional clothing: a white blouse embroidered with flowers and a long black skirt for women.
The men wear white pants, a blue poncho, a colored hat and have long, black braided hair.

 

Highly recommended is a visit to the surrounding villages, where some of the souvenirs that you can buy on the market are made in the traditional way.
