The stunning, new route from Guamote (approximately 3 hours), through the National Park Llanganates offers the possibility to combine the rainforest on the way to Cuenca. The road to Macas is surrounded by impressive scenery which will provide nice photo opportunities. Macas is the place for birdspotting, meeting the Shuar culture or to simply enjoy the vast green forests.

 

Since Macas is still quite undiscovered, there are limited accommodation options. 
During the five-hour trip to Cuenca there are many waterfalls to see and you can make several nice stops.
