As in most Latin American countries, football in Ecuador is a passion. People here breathe, sleep and eat football and there is nothing like visiting a stadium to watch an authentic Ecuadorian football match for a real cultural experience.
This project allows you to carry out something you enjoy whilst also helping younger footballers improve their skills as you coach football to children at a local football school on San Cristobal Island in the Galapagos.
Ecuador’s most famous football player is Antonio Valencia and although Ecuador has a strong national football team, it fails to develop players at the grassroots end of the game. There is a real lack of funding from the government so many local football teams look for private company sponsors to fund training.
Children who attend the football club in Galapagos come from a range of backgrounds and are aged between 6 and 14 years old. You will assist the local coach at the school to help children develop their football skills as well as improve your own coaching abilities.
